Description
This herbal tea is suitable for the treatment of coronary heart diseases and the prevention of angina pectoris.
Aroma and taste: this tea has an acquired taste. It has earthy/woody aroma and earthy taste with touch of sweetness and bitterness.
Ingredients:
Radix Salviae Miltiorrhizae (Chinese red sage root, Dan Shen)
Directions:
steep as a tee according instructions on the package in hot water for 10 min. Drink one cup of tea daily at any time.
Indications for use:
1- Pain and heaviness in the chest, angina pectoris, palpitations, insomnia, anxiety, and irritability
2- Various circulatory disorders; blood stagnation in lower abdomen (dysmenorrhea, amenorrhea), in the chest, or hypochondria.
Red sage (Salvia Miltiorrhiza or Dan Shen) is a perennial plant native to East Asia. It has been used for over two millennia. In traditional Chinese medicine, it belongs to the category of herbs that improve blood flow (herbs that Invigorate the blood). Red sage is used for atherosclerosis; it lowers blood cholesterol and participates in platelet aggregation. It is also used for hypertension with ventricular hypertrophy, associated with arterial hypertension. Lastly, red sage thins blood. It is used for bruising and wound healing and has anticoagulant and anti-inflammatory effects.
Method of administration:
Brew it as tea and drink one bag per day. A little green tea can be added to enhance the taste.
Contraindications:
- Pregnancy
- Cannot be used in combination with Rhizome and Black Hellebore (Li Lu)
- Taking red sage root along with blood thinners (aspirin, Warfarin/Coumadin) may increase the chance of bruising and bleeding
